Anxiety and fear seem to go hand in hand, at least according to those who suffer from both. Psychologically speaking, there is a difference between the two. Anxiety is a directionless and uncomfortable emotional state that brings feelings of apprehension, dread, distress, and uneasiness. In short, anxiety is objectless.

Fear is similar to anxiety, except that fear has a specific object. You can be fearful of heights, tight places, humiliation, spiders, and so forth. Experiencing fear can quickly lead to a state of anxiety because of the overstimulation and loss of control that comes with being afraid.

It is human nature to want to avoid what we fear. However, that kind of action only empowers fear and anxiety. That is not to say that you need to start embracing spiders and jumping off a cliff, but it does mean that learning to embrace that which you fear will bring you a step closer to reducing anxiety and stress in your life.

A lot of people spend an incredible amount of time and money trying to treat their fear and anxiety by only treating the symptoms and they completely neclect the true roots of their problems. Prescription drugs like Xanax only provide temporary relief, and they drain your wallet at the same time.
